Remember this familiar face? Lindsay was a dental assistant at our office from to the summer of 2006 to the winter of 2009. She and her husband Sam then moved back to his home in the Gold Coast of Australia. This week, Lindsay took some time off from her current assisting job to visit friends and family back in California. She got to spend some time with Dr. Kari and meet Duke for the first time! Safe travels Lindsay!
Congratulations to Greg Hong (Dr. Kari's brother) and Maggie on their recent engagement! Maggie was a dental assistant at our office for many years until she moved with Greg to New York City to launch Reserve, a mobile app for fine dining. They are both doing great and on their way to a wonderful future. Best wishes from California!
Duke will be turning one year old this week and already has 8 of his primary teeth! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that all children have their first dental visit by 12 months to ensure that development is continuing normally. If your youngster needs his first checkup, give our office a call!
Everyone had a great time at our office holiday party this weekend! A special thank you to Dr. Kari Ann Hong and her husband Erik for hosting our staff and their loved ones. So you can better plan your own festivities: please note that the office will be closed from Saturday, December 19th to Sunday, December 27th. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
What a time to celebrate! Our office manager Michael's son Jonathan turned one this week. Michael and his wife Katie definitely had their hands full with planning and preparing for the event, but it all payed off. Happy birthday Jonathan, we hope you got everything you wished for!

Did your little ones get a big haul trick-or-treating this year? If you're stuck with more sweets than you know what to do with, consider sharing them with our troops! Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit that organizes support packages for our servicemen and women, hosts a yearly Halloween candy donation drive out of Van Nuys. Last year, we snapped a photo of a small portion of their donations:
Just look at all those sweets! If you want to brighten a troops day (or cut back on the residual Halloween sugar in your household), click through to their website. Operation Gratitude is asking for all donations by November 15th (whether shipped or in person), so get those candies in!

At Thousand Oaks Family Dentistry, we always love seeing our staff's children at the office. This week, our hygienist Adrienne's daughters Kamdin and Rylin came in to see their mom at work (and get some cleanings out of the way). Our beloved assistant/front office staff Christy is moving to Texas! Though we are sad to see her go, we're excited to hear about her new adventures in the Lone Star state. In her honor, we held an office party at the Malibu Cafe. A great time was had by all! Christy, best of luck to you and your family- we know you will have a wonderful time in Texas!
Just in time for Halloween!
Have you ever noticed the candy bowl sitting at our front desk? Its full of Dr. John’s Candies. They’re delicious low calorie lollipops, mints and suckers that come in a variety of shapes and flavors. The best part? They’re all sweetened with xylitol, a natural sugar alternative! Xylitol can be found in a variety of sources- from trees to fruits and vegetables. When used as a sweetener, it limits the ability of oral bacteria to cause cavities by stopping their acid production. A win-win for oral health!
This Halloween, we suggest stocking up on some xylitol goodies for your trick-or-treaters. Dr. John’s candies are an excellent option, as they taste great and can be ordered in bulk directly from the company or on Amazon.com.
