Welcome Dr. Tapp!

Please join Thousand Oaks Family Dentistry in welcoming Dr. Christine Tapp to our office.  Dr. Tapp grew up in Pennsylvania, where she attended Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales and earned a B.S. in Chemistry.  She moved to southern California for dental school and earned her doctorate in dentistry from the USC School of Dentistry in 2004. A year later she settled in the Conejo Valley and has worked with some of the finest dentists across Ventura County.

Dr. Tapp is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Santa Barbara-Ventura County Dental Society, and has been selected to serve on the Peer Review Committee.  She is also a member of the Spears Study Club, and has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education with an emphasis on providing the highest quality conservative dental treatment.  In addition, she is dedicated to providing each patient with individualized care and service.  Outside the office, Dr. Tapp enjoys spending time with her four year old son, Evan. They love being active outdoors with friends and family.

With Christmas around the corner, many people are looking for unique and useful gift ideas. Why not give that special someone an upgrade to their oral health? Here are some of our picks for top dental gift ideas for 2016!

Almost everyone will appreciate the benefits of an electric toothbrush. Wether it spins, slides or vibrates, the motorized action seems to make brushing a more enjoyable experience. We recommend looking for a model with a built in two minute timer and pressure sensor. You can usually find deals at big box stores on brands like Phillips Sonicare and Oral B. Before you buy, make sure replacement heads are readily available and reasonably priced. 

For the person always on-the-go, you may want to consider a dental subscription service like Quip or Goby. Here, you purchase the initial electric toothbrush and the company sends you regular toothpaste refills and replacement brush heads. This takes all the guesswork out of keeping your brush in working order! Again, look for a product that has a timer and pressure sensor. Additionally, check that the refill toothpaste contains cavity fighting fluoride. 

Looking for stocking stuffers? Try a fun brand/flavor of toothpaste. Crest has various lines of toothpaste with flavors like citrus, cinnamon and even chocolate! You can also try organic brands like Toms of Maine. However, be careful that the paste you choose contains fluoride. If you know any kids or teens in braces, built-in threader floss or ORTHOgami flossers can be a fun way to encourage good oral hygiene. The possibilities are endless!

Dr. Hong's Spring Break Vacation

This spring break, Dr. Hong and her husband Erik visited Iceland, where Erik's mother was born and raised. While in Iceland, they visited family, saw the house Erik's mom grew up in and viewed some beautiful scenery. They even stopped by a museum with a 850 year old mandible on display!

After returning home, Dr. Hong's sons joined them for a trip to Mammoth Mountain for some spring skiing! Everyone got to have some fun and relaxation before heading back to reality!

Pediatric and Orthodontic Offices We Work With

Providing care for children is one of the most challenging and sensitive aspect of dentistry. Kids react to the office setting within an entire spectrum of behavior; from eager and inquisitive to scared and frustrated. We have designed our office to be as welcoming as possible for your young ones with toys, cable TV (Nick, Nick Jr., Disney, etc.) and even a dedicated kid's room (seen in the background of the title photo). Still, there are times that we need to rely on our network of specialists to best meet the needs of your individual child. 

We are proud to work with Dr. Ahsan Raza of 1000 Oaks Children's Dental Group. On top of specialized behavioral management techniques, Dr. Raza prides himself in being an extremely communicative and personal pediatric dentist. He uses a number of techniques, ranging from education to sedation to ensure the best possible dental outcomes. Your kids will love his spaceship themed office too!

In terms of orthodontic offices, we are proud to work with Doctors Nagel Sr. and Nagel Jr. of Nagel Orthodontics and Dr. William Hang of Face Focused Orthodontics. Norm and Jeffrey Nagel bring together over 40 years of experience in orthodontics and pride themselves in combining the best parts of digital and hands-on dentistry. Likewise, Dr. Hang has spent his career developing the Face Focused program, an orthodontic system that develops straight teeth while respecting posture and opening airways.

Jonathan's First Birthday

What a time to celebrate! Our office manager Michael's son Jonathan turned one this week. Michael and his wife Katie definitely had their hands full with planning and preparing for the event, but it all payed off. Happy birthday Jonathan, we hope you got everything you wished for!

Adrienne And Her Daughters

At Thousand Oaks Family Dentistry, we always love seeing our staff's children at the office. This week, our hygienist Adrienne's daughters Kamdin and Rylin came in to see their mom at work (and get some cleanings out of the way). Be sure to give us a call when you or your little ones are ready to stop by!

Here's another fun moment from our office: Sharon (our past dental assistant and hygienist) stopped by for a cleaning and brought along her son Nico. This gave our insurance coordinator Carol a chance to babysit during the appointment. How much fun! We love getting updates on our past staff and their families. Until next time!!
